Fox Pool (Cemex)

LOCATION: Staines Road, Wraysbury, Berkshire. TW19 5AH

SIZE: Lake: 6 acres.

This small, intimate pool on the old Longfield Complex offers the angler a real challenge as this venue is only six acres and is gin-clear. The venue can become relatively weedy in the summer, just to make it even more of a challenge, although weed-free spots can be found in and around the marginal features. Fox Pool became famous many years ago and has just grown in reputation as a big fish water due to the fantastic angling opportunities available to those willing to adopt a dedicated approach to this historic lake.

The fishing is by no means easy and can at times be extremely difficult, so do not expect to boost your catch rate dramatically by fishing this lake. The lake holds a good head of fish with both mirror and common carp going well over the 35lb mark. The largest known fish at present is 40lb+ with a good head of back-up fish present. This venue also benefits from a good head of common carp over 30lb, which do draw people to the lake, but like the mirrors, these fish can be equally cagey!

There will be a little tidying up of dead wood and trees around the lake this coming close season and this is mainly for the safety of the anglers and to stop any more trees falling in the lake. As this is quite a small water, we have a 48-hour rule on the venue. This is to stop people holding swims for weeks on end and to give everyone a chance at catching some of the pool’s fantastic stock.

The fish get so close to the margins in this water that it really has to be seen to be believed. Possibly a good tip would be to keep very mobile and just drop a bait in the margins for an hour or so then move on to areas where fish have been spotted. This tactic should give the angler considerably more chances than adopting the ‘bait and wait’ approach, even though this can produce multiple catches at certain times of year.

The complex is extremely secure, being protected by two security gates fitted with combination padlocks and is well-manned by our dedicated bailiff team. The venue does also hold some very good tench, but again these are hardly ever fished for so the exact potential is unknown. Other species present are populations of good pike and perch, so a bit of pioneering could be done on this venue.
